Tryouts
How can I join the team? One of the coaches will watch your child swim and determine which practice group your child should be placed into. This is based on ability as well as age.
Simply go through the entrance at the Aquatics Center, inform the staff at the desk you are there for a tryout with the Morgan Hill Swim Club, and proceed to the 50 meter pool; the big pool in the back of the complex.
Introduce yourself to one of our coaches and they will assign a person for the tryout. Sign-up information will be given after the tryout and evaluation occurs.
Encourage your child to be happy and have fun!

Common Questions
Is my child ready to join the team? Our requirement is that a child can swim across the pool 25 yards and is comfortable in deep water. The child must also be willing to follow instructions from a coach.
How much does it cost? Dues vary according to practice groups. Monthly dues for 2007-2008 vary from $80.00 to $120.00 depending on the practice group. Families with multiple children swimming with the Makos get a discount.
How often is practice? Swimmers are encouraged but not required to attend all practices. Swimmers in the Blue Group can attend up to three practices per week; Gold Group up to 4 days per week Swimmers in the Age, Junior, and Senior groups can attend up to five practices per week and should try make a minimum of three. Attendance is considered along with other factors for all promotions to the next higher group and becomes an expectation at the Senior Group level. See the Workout Schedule for days and times.
How often do the swimmers compete? Makos swimmers usually try to compete at least once a month. New swimmers normally compete in June & July tri-meets (small 3 team competitions) and the Coast Valley Aquatics League (CVAL) Meet held in August. The ability of the swimmer will determine which meets they will attend. Competition is not mandatory although it is highly encouraged. Many meets require advanced registration, and these notifications are done by e-mail, posted on our website or placed in your family file folder.
